Like the practice of Alchemy which transmutes base metal (lead) into noble metal (gold) , in Neidan the human body becomes a cauldron in which the Three Treasures of Jing ("Essence"), Qi ("Breath") and Shen ("Spirit") are cultivated for the purpose of improving physical, emotional and mental health, and ultimately returning to the primordial unity of the Tao.

Breathing methods: Breathing is a very important of the body's cyclic patterns of energy exchange with the universe, but it is also one of the most often overlooked and rarely practiced consciously. Most people have poor breathing habits i.e. shallow breathing or only use a portion of their lungs, even when they believe they are taking deep breaths, and hold their breath–especially when they become nervous or tense.
Learn the deep breathing practices which lengthen the breath thereby increasing one’s energy exchange & improving longevity.
Natural or Abdominal breathing: Enhance the abdominal breathing you learnt in the VITAL QIGONG and POWER QIGONG for meditation and internal observation.
Reverse or Daoist breathing: Daoist breathing exercises are designed to activate the diaphragm muscle, expand the lungs, and invoke the body's innate relaxation response. Unlike pranayama, Taoist breathing emphasizes on pulling the breath down to one’s navel, then to Dan Tian (energy center) & over the period even lower. Beginning with “Reverse breathing” one learns to breath with 8 different areas inside the abdominal cavity i.e. kidney breathing and lower/upper back breathing resulting in gentle massage of the internal organs thereby invigorating them.

Daoist Sitting meditation: “Embracing the Dao” or “Returning to the Source” is the key principle behind daoist meditation. It is like the reset button / program on your smartphone which un-clutters the unwanted apps, processes which reduce the processor’s performance & brings it back to its factory settings or the primodial / original state. Gives you the opportunity to return your mind and body to the primodial state you were born with. Taoist meditation helps us to calm our mind and our emotions so we do not overreact to every bump in the road.
Silent sitting meditation: For a casual observer from outside, the daoist meditating individual appears to be sitting quietly, breathing deeply and gently, with a small half smile on his or her lips. Internally however, great forces are at work, reshaping and rerouting streams of energy and light. It’s internal alchemy at work.
Progressive meditations: For those who have attained the initial stages of daoist meditation practices of internal alchemy, the advanced practices gives access to deeper levels of one’s own being physically, mentally & emotionally. A glimpse of the advanced daoist meditations

Standing post meditation: While sitting meditation is internally focused & can become very cerebrally, standing meditation emphasizes connection with the physical body. Since the physical body is viewed as an anchor of the mind and emotions, it is the perfect point of reference for calming the mind and emotions. Standing post meditation involves relaxed breathing, mental imagery and internal awareness while standing in specific postures to deeply release long held stress and tension. The legs, spine and shoulders become very strong yet relaxed.
Energy practice with a tree: Taoist Masters observed that trees are tremendously powerful plants which can absorb carbon dioxide and transform it into oxygen. They can also absorb negative forces and transform them into good energy. Trees stand very still, absorbing the Earth’s Energy and the Universal Force from the Heavens. Befriending a tree and connecting with its energy can help you open your energy channels and cultivate calm, presence, and vitality. You can reciprocate by helping them with their own blockages and devitalized areas.
Muscle tendon change (standing): Standing Yi Jin Jing to transform your muscles & tendons. Done after a year of daoist breathing practice the still standing Yi Jin Jing has 12 fist & 12 palm sets which are done powered by breath to pack chi in the extremities i.e. arms, legs and fingers. The breath directs the flow of blood to the intended area thereby increasing the chi flow to that part of the body.
Other Daoist internal practices
Walking meditation: Daoist walking meditation is a type of walking meditation as a way to bring body and mind into harmony. The ancient Taoist method of walking meditations help us to connect into the environment around us for exchanging energy with nature while maintaining a vigorous pace. We bring qi from our environment into our body and release any stagnant stuff locked inside giving a feeling of fresh and clean internal view. It’s like opening the windows of a house that has been shut up for too long.
Sleeping meditation: Sleep practice is different from ordinary sleep such that cultivation is done in a reclining position as if you were sleeping. Although for an external observer the practitioner appears to be asleep, the body is completely still while the attitude and intention is in motion as in moving forms. The combination of movement and stillness calms the nerves and strengthen the body.
Ideal for both white and blue collar workers who are stressed at work as it’s practice can restore spirit, energy, and strength within a few minutes or half an hour. Sleep meditation practice helps to eliminate disease, calm spirit, extend life, and increase longevity.
